Hi All..
I went to the Rheumy on the 23rd September and he checked me over and
said that the current meds are not working, Methotrexate up from 7.5mg
to 15mg and Celebrex for inflammation and painkillers.
Bloods came back Esr 81 and Crp 29 so he said he'll see me in 3 months with
a Nurse visit in between.
Now I usually get a copy of the consultants letter but didn't this time so
had to get one from the doctor's, I got it and at the end it said something about escalation of treatment..
Soon found out what that meant at my nurse visit...I am to be put on anti
TNF treatment in 2 weeks, I was given a choice of three so I'm having Embrel
as it's a weekly injection, now waiting for the supply and then the nurse to come and show me how.
So it's just the waiting now..

This is standard procedure, Tinky. I had to spend a few years failing on the standard meds before I was put onto the anti-TNFs, I am now on my third and it's combined with injectable meth. I hope the enbrel works better for you than it did for me, quite a few on here have had it with some success so I hope you join their gang rather than mine. I wish you well. Hi, Marie.
I will in deed keep you all posting ( if I remember ). My hubby has OA in most of his joints due to working as a Stevedore for 20 years and all they will
give him is co-co's which don't do a thing for him..
Thanks, yvette..0 -
Hi Yvette;
Please do post back with your Enbel experiences. I am likely going to start this in January, in combo with methotrexate. I know we are all different, but it's helpful to know how others fare with a med. I have PsA too.
Best wishes that it works for you

Hi,Anna,
I sure will, I've only had a little bit of nausea with the methotrexate so far as I have been reading all the great info on here so I decided to split the dose, a couple of hours apart and it work..
A bit apprehensive about injecting myself though.. hopefully in the
next week or so. :shock:0 -
Hi,
Well, I have just had the phone call to say that they have given the go ahead for my Enbrel and it will be delivered next Thursday...
So now it will be just the waiting for it too arrive and the nurse to visit a couple of days later then I can get started.

be Monday 1.30pm..........
I am hoping it will do something as I can't move when I'm in bed, walking is a
big no-no and can't sleep cause of the pain..
Finger's crossed, that's if they'll go..0 -

Hi All...
Well, the day has arrived. I awaited with eagerness at the thought of being
stabbed by the nurse.
I prepared all things needed,
1: The sharps Box
2: The enbrel Injection, got out half and hour or so early.
3: The large load of reading material that was provided..
4: A nice place to sit while having said injection.
Comforted to know that I had hubby sitting by my side and the Christmas Tree all aglow with twinkling light......arrrrhhhhhh....so chilled.
I listened intently to the nurse listing all the do's and don'ts.
The she said it............................right I think you can do it yourself.. :?
So I did..............easy peasy, didn't hurt or feel anything. So she is letting
me do myself again next week and then seeing me the week after..
So know its a case of waiting and waiting, for something to happen.0 -
Well done Tinky! Hope you get some results soon! Keep us updatedHow am I gonna be an optimist about this?0

Hey, well done you! Easy peasy I hope you soon feel the benefit and future stabbings go equally smoothly. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hey SW...:D I didn't expect to be doing the first one, I thought it would
be at least the next week so I'm chuffed with how it went, yes, I hope
future stabbings ( thigh ) next time will be as easy..
Thanks SW..

Congratulations, that is a big hurdle over and done with. It is a big deal doing the first one (I began my self-injecting lark with enbrel) but for me it was twice a week, I had to mix the stuff too - I felt very medical. I am pleased you handled it so well, I hope that continues and that it helps. Good luck! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Good Afternoon.. :noel:
I thought I'd better report my going's on with Enbrel... :madnoel:
Week 1: Had injection in stomach, didn't feel a thing and no site reaction whatsoever. Days 2+3 I felt like I had, had a steroid injection...feeling happy or what but it didn't last. On the 3rd I had a violent headache, sick and was in bed all day. It did pass and was OK after. But could feel myself getting right back to how I was before.
Week 2: Injection on side of the stomach, just a slight bruise. I think I pinched myself a bit too hard.. All OK, no real change.
Week 3: I did it in my thigh, didn't hurt but I did have a sight reaction on it.
Nothing major just a bit of redness, and a little bruise. Nurse is happy at the way I'm doing the injections.......a natural.... :xmas_mrgreen: All those medical programmes....:)
So all in all it's gone OK but no significant change as yet..
I hope your all doing as best you can,

I hope it will start to work soon, Yvette. Christmas would be nice, eh :xmas_cool:
Well done on the self-stabbing. You sound to be doing great. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

How have you been getting on Tinky? I used Humira then Enbrel and now I'm on Golimumab all with methotrexate injections. I do hope yours is working for you.0

Hi everyone..
Well, I thought I'd better update this. I have been on Enbrel for 6 weeks now. Was due to take number 7 yesterday but didn't take it due to having an appointment at hospital.
Unfortunately after each injection I was getting a rash and itching, I did
take antihistamine tablets and cream which didn't help.
So by last week I had a rash measuring 6" x 4" and growing. I have just
had my Rheumy consultant appointment yesterday and he has taken me off
it and I will be starting Humira in the coming weeks..
As well as my hair falling out, was a lovely and curly and now it's thin and straight... but Rheumy didn't seem to bothered as I'm on 10mg now anyway.
I also haven't felt any benefit from either medicine.
Now it's back to the drawing board for me.. :?

Hi Tinky,Sorry you have had trouble with your other meds I have been on humira for 15 months now and once it kicked in it has changed my life ,the only thing that stops me doing some things is the fact that my hands are a little deformed and weak otherwise a success ( touch wood) the injection is in pen form which is really easy to use ,I also take hydroxy tablets daily. Please let us know how you get on.
