Hi
I have been meaning to post, and to keep in touch, but things have been hard at the moment (Thanks Barbara for your text to see how I was xx)
I have started back at work, on a phased return. But things are not sorted still yet, and I am getting very frustrated with all the red tape and delays in them making a decision about my future.
Health wise, I am having a lot of pain and stiffness in my back, which is causing sleeplessness due to nerve pain, and difficulty finding a comfortable sleep position. My new hip is doing ok, apart from soft tissue pain. My other hip (4 & half yrs old) is causing me a grinding sensation, again
I have a lot of big decisions to make about my career, and whether I can manage with the whole role etc.. but I have to consider the finances too.
I am still having physio to try to improve things with my back (also known as torture treatment!! )
My Mum is still unwell and I am worried about her.
If anyone has any tips for sleeping with a painful back are very welcome.
I hope everyone is keeping as well as can be xx
NB

Oh dear, you have your hands full don't you? (And there's no need to apologise, we're all still here as you can see.) I am sorry to hear all of this and it's no wonder you are struggling one way and another. I can't help in any way because my troubles are different to yours (I am preparing for our iminent house move) but I hope you can get things resolved sooner rather than later. I wish you well. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I'm sorry, NB. We tend to think, on the whole, that when someone goes awol it's a sign that things are better for them. Clearly this isn't so for you. I can't help at all but I do hope you can get a better plan in place soon. Sorry, too, about your Mum.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hello NB
Its good to see you back only I am sorry you are struggling at work...I really was hoping that you would get the help you needed..you would think they would give you all the help you need..especially has you have all the qualifications..its crackers..
Now the back the only thing that is helping me at the min and its by accident is the pillow between the legs..but quite high ..above the knees..not sure if it will help you...I am struggling sleeping on my op side..I think that is because of the soft tissue not being healed.
I do wish you mum well and please let us no how you get on at work and sleeping...(((()))xx

Hi NB, it's good to hear from you! Sorry you are suffering so much with your back and hips at the moment. The cold is starting to make my joints feel rubbish and click! It's that time for us Arthritic's to hibernate till Spring like other animals!!
It's hard to make decisions about your life & health, especially when it comes to employment and money. Just try and take your time and don't rush it. Make sure it's the right decision for you and your family and you all agree. Take care. bubba x

    Hi,

I'm on the awol list lately too for different reasons to you but I've also been assured that apologies aren't needed ... I believe them :D

So sorry that ure work place doesn't sound like they're doing all they could & should to help you!! I think they can be forced too, it's whether you wish to take that route!! I wish you all the very best.xx

I have a bad back but the worst pain was from a ruptured disk & I never found a comfortable way to sleep as both sciatic nerves were involved, sorry!!

    (((( ))))

Hi NB. Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit 'rubbishy' at present and hope things will improve for you soon.

My back is playing up something crazy at the moment and I know how difficult it is to get comfortable to sleep. I take a warmed wheatbag to bed with me and drape it across my back to try and ease the pain. Probably only practical if, like me, you don't have an OH to consider! I usually end up sleeping in the most ridiculous position. Can't sleep on my front as that puts pressure on my knee which then creates havoc, can't sleep on my left side as have 'wonky' left shoulder and, of course, lying on my back is a definite no-no. Sleeping can definitely be a 'challenge' (think that is polite enough?!) with OA.

If you do manage to find the answer please let us all know NB.

Hope things improve for you soon.

    Hi
    Thankyou soooo much everyone xx
It means a lot to have your support.
Work is still rubbish. Not much else I can say.
Thanks for the sleep tips. I am using a hot water bottle on my back as my wheat pack needs replacing, maybe Santa will bring me a new one!!
I will try to keep in touch more, I promise!
Good luck with the house move DD, I did that 18 months ago, never again!!

    Hi NB,

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time all round.

As someone who had years of back problems I have tried many things. I used a pillow between my knees or sometimes I would lie on my back with one under my knees. Or, as I found that at Physio I was least uncomfortable lying on my front with a pillow under my tummy and one under my ankles with a heat pack on my back. The trouble is that none of these positions are comfortable for long and so I am afraid that medication was my solution quite often. Either amitriptyline or I would use the sleepy side effects of codeine/tramadol to help me sleep.

I hope you get some rest soon and that things will look up for you.

hello my dear NB... i am another one that has been absent...
For me the only way I can get any sleep with the back pain is as suggested, a pillow between the legs, only... I have two 5foot feather bolsters (bless Janet for putting up with me) and I use those to 'drape' myself over... worked well for me, till the shpulders started, now I am screwed  lol

Best of luck with work hun..

    Hi
    Thanks Frogmella and Tony xx
I will have to try the pillows again. I use heat packs/hot water bottles all the time.
This week has been awful. Pain levels up a few notches, limping more, sleeping less. I have a constant headache form lack of sleep.
I went back to the gP, who is at a loss for what to do with me!! She says I am on the top doses of dullers, I am seeing physio so she offered me another MRI to see if I have bursitis. I declined! I hate MRI`s and don`thtink it is bursitis either. So she has referred me to the MSK specialist practitioner for ideas!!
Work still unresolved. But I am worried about how i will cope with more duties.
On a positive, all Christmas pressies bought and wrapped :presents1:
    Take care xx

    HI Nearly :)

Good to see you though not good to hear how hard it is ATM for you.

I am a pillow person too between my knees and I have a shaped m.foam neck pillow too.

A referral to musculoskeletal clinic is a GOOD idea I think - they are after all the experts.

Well done for wrapping your pressies I hope that means more time to rest??? :rudolph:

    Love and ((()))
