Blood test results back today show infection body

Just got back from GP who informed me that bloods showed a big rise in white cells showing that they are fighting an infection in my body. He was not sure where the infection is. I have felt terrible for ages now and was getting worse. He stopped all meds and has given me an all round anti biotic to try to get rid of the infection. As I do not have a cold or cough, chest clear and heart the infection is floating around somewhere. I am to have water test on Monday and more bloods on Friday. My feet are extremely painful as is my ankles, knees and around the ankles are red and hot so to me it looks like thats where it has settled. I put everything down to Arther and never thought about an infection. I did have an infection in my ankle in the summer time after a consultant tried to draw fluid from a ganglion, I had 2 weeks antibiotics and it seemed to clear. Now I am wondering if it did. Has anyone else has this and also does anyone know anything about Reactive Arthritis as a friend mentioned this to me today. Sorry for long post but hopefully I will get some ideas. Hope you al had a nice Christmas and A Happy New Year to you all. Thank you all for giving me someone to talk to.

Oh poor you. Well, at least is explains the problem and hopefully things will start improving. I'm afraid I don't know much about reactive arthritis but I'm sure someone more knowledgably will come along soon to offer some advice. Take good care.0

It doesn't sound good, does it, but it might explain a few things and show you a way forward. I hope the antibios do their job quickly.
As for Reactive Arthritis, try putting it into the Arthritis Care search engine. What I know about it is that it can start as a result of an infection and can, eventually go though it doesn't always go and sometimes comes back even when it does. i think the treatment is exactly the same as for auto-immune forms of arthritis.
Good luck, valde. Keep us informed. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hope the antibiotics are kicking in and you're feeling a good bit better. Are you due to see your Rheumatologist any time soon and have you let them know you're unwell? I ask because mine always say to let the helpline know if at any time I have an infection or have to stop my meds.
Good luck.

Many thanks to you all for your replies. I spoke to my gp
again today as I still feel very unwell. He has said that the antiobios should start kicking in now as this is my 4th day. So fingers crossed. Must admit they have been marvellous today as 1 gp phoned me this morning to talk things through because I was so depressed and my alloted gp phoned at lunch time to say water sample was clear and he said that was a good sign. Went for blood tests this afternoon (sat for 2 hours waiting and could hardly move after that) and have an appointment with gp on Wed. I have been without antiinflams since Friday so joints are really painful but he said I could take para (I know they are not antiinflams but hope they might take the edge off) and the antibios. He is reluctant to put me back on Naproxen and I feel the same. I am due to see Rheumy on Monday so will let you know how I get on. I am sure there are many more antiinflams out there. I am really hoping to get some sleep tonight as I feel I have not slept properly for weeks. Thanks again for listening.0 -
It sounds as if things are in motion, valde, and your GPs are certainly looking after you. I hope the rheumatology appt. goes well. Do keep us informed. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello All. Thought I would update you. I have been pretty bad this last few weeks and have had strong antiobiotics for an infection somewhere. I had more bloods taken on Monday and have just got back from doc for results as he tested for everything but the kitchen sink this time ! Infection is going down so antibiotics are going the right way although still dont know where infection is. He took me off Naproxen last Friday as he said they could have damaged my stomach and would prefer to leave the arthritis med to rheumy (I am seeing them on Monday). All other bloods were OK but they found that I was seriously lacking in VitD infact it was on the floor !. They had never tested for this before and he said it would definitely explain the reason for my extreme fatigue and feeling down. He has put me on very high dose on Vit D for 3 months to boost me up. More bloods in a week and then in 3 months. I really hope we have got to the bottom of this now and I hope to be feeling a bit better soon. Mentally I feel better knowing the reason for the extreme fatigue I would never have thought low VitD would be the problem. Fingers crossed I may be on the up now after almost 3 months. Thanks for listening.0
