PREGABALIN
Hi, I saw my Rheumy today and she prescribed me what she explained was a different pain killer as I have been on co-codamol for a long time now and so she felt I should change things. I looked this med up and it says that it's for seizures and anxiety neither of which I have! Totally bemused now so wondered if anyone has taken this drug and does it work for pain, also what, if any side effects has anyone had with this drug. I had an allergic reaction to prednisolone and amitriptyline made me pile on weight, which I have eventually managed to lose, so don't want to go back there again!
Hope someone can help me out with this one. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.

Pregabalin is similar to Gabapentin which I take, used for treating neuropathic pain, postherpetic neuralgia & fibromyalgia. I took amitryptiline for a bit, but it didn't help me, GP changed it to Gabapentin which is better. I get pain in my leg because of a low back problem, NOT sciatica I was told, but nerve pain??
Hope that's a bit of help!0 -
Hi
All that I know about pregablin is that it is for nerve pain.....also seizures.
I have well controlled epilepsy {nothing for 33 years}
A GP prescribed it for me and I checked it like you did and thought that ...."well I take meds for epilepsy so I don't want to overdose"
Checked with my orthopaedic surgeon and he said no not to take it......it would clash with my other ones.
I don't want to do anything that might rock the boat after being stable for so many years so I didn't take it. That's just my opinion and experience.......I'm not medically experienced

Hi A, I am on Pregabilin and it was given to me for my Neuropathic pain. Gabapentin is the precursor to Pregabilin, and as Pregabilin is the newer drug it is more expensive but also has the newer chemistry so works better.
The side effects I have are mind blanks, where I forget words mid sentence, but it works well on the pain.
Hope this helps.
take care xxClare xx0 -
Good morning and Happy New Year. Hope it's a good one for you.
I've been on Pregabalin for a couple of years now. Increasing doses and now I'm at the max dose, prescribed by GP on advice from Rheumatologist Consultant.
I've got PsA Osteo A and Fibromyalgia all diagnosed by the Rheumatologist. The side effects I get are feeling a bit wooly headed at times and fatigue. Having said that, the disease itself can give you these side effects so who knows.
Everyone is different and side effects I would have might not be what you have.
As CJHunter says, Pregabalin is a newer drug than Gabapentin but both work well for some people for nerve pain.
I hope you find something that works for you. If you've seen the Dr and the co-codamol are not working it would be worth trying something else.
best of luck, do let us know how you get on.0 -
Hi Agape,
Yes I have been on Pregabaln for neuropathic pain, unfortunately they did absolutely nothing for me but I think it is the nature of my rare condition, I was tried on every neuropathic drug there is and nothing worked till I was tried on intravenous immunoglobulin which helps. I know people who do get relief with Pregabalin, we are all different and they are worth a try, hope they work for you.................Marie xSmile a while and while you smile
smile another smile and soon there
will be miles and miles of smiles
just because you smiled I wish your
day is full of Smiles0
