Hi
sorry for the short notice, but I had thought I could get through this one on my own. But I am feeling quite sick with nerves for the the Functional Capability Assessment at work tomorrow. Not sure what they will ask me to do, but it is supposed to assess my ability to safely and competently carry out my expected duties at work. It was requested by Occ Health and will be carried out by a physio, and takes 3 hours!!
I am scared I will say or do something that will give them something to use against me and I will be redeployed if they decide I cannot do all my duties due to my advised restrictions and my other issues eg my back. I know I have to be honest and not to put myself at risk, but I need my job
I would be very grateful of anyone who is free to hold my hand in the morning x

Hi
Thank you all so much for all your support, it means a lot xx
I had my assessment yesterday, with a lovely physio from Occ health. She was very thorough and knew her stuff. She looked at my x rays and said what I have been thinking for a while, that there is some discrepancy in position between my left and right hip prosthesis, causing some leg length discrepancy. This will not be helping my back problems!!
I had a lot of questions to answer, then I had to do a few `mock` work based tasks to show the things I would have problems completing without adjustments. She was quite positive about how she could find safe ways round me doing these tasks, and she will have a report with my manager today outlining the required new equipment I will need. I asked for a copy to be emailed to me as I am on leave this week.
So I will wait to get my email, and see what she says.
I have my review at the hospital later this month to discuss the pain in my groin etc..
Thanks again xx

That sounds like a good assessment, NB.
Re the leg length discrepancy - I always find a new hip or knee affects mine. Surgical shoes always have to be sorted post-op. Do mention it at your appt.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi NB
Glad to hear the appointment went well......makes such a difference when you get a "nice" physio/doc/consultant or whatever.
It sounds very positive

Hi
Sorry I have been a bit late in replying, but other `stuff` going on in the family. Not good, and I am always the one people come to to offload. I must put up a good front of `seeming` strong, unfortunately this is not the case at the moment. I am really finding it hard to cope emotionally with my own stuff, without theirs, but hey ho!!
I got my work assessment report back, and it was very detailed. It is hard sometimes to read about your own health issues and limitations. It makes it look worse when you see it in black and white somehow . But she had put in some positives, and a recommendation regarding equipment I need. But she has suggested something that needs to be used in a way that Health & Safety will not agree for me to use it. So I am a bit at a loss to what the next step will be. I am waiting to hear form Health & Safety and Union about their advice etc.. Oh and my manager is leaving! Great, I will now have to tell my `story ` to another manager and hope she/he will be sympathetic and understanding.
I have physio this week and my hospital appointment next week. Not feeling very positive at the moment. I need to find my `mojo`. If anyone sees it please send it back!!
thanks again for your support xx

Hi NB
Sorry you are having a rough time.
Yes I remember reading about my illness one time and feeling really depressed.
It was nothing I didn't know and I was coping with it but to read it.....in black and white....mde me feel awful
Isn't typical at this time that you would be getting a new manager
Take care
Love
