Outcome of GP appointment, great GP

Just back from a visit to my favourite GP. When I had my post op review at hospital, even though I said I was still getting a lot of pain I was told I needed to start reducin my pain meds and talk to my GP.
My GP listened, said "That's rubbish" and said there was no need to do this as if needed them I needed them. He then looked at what I was taking, took me off co-dydramol and on to paracetamol and Meptazinol, explaining he couldn't give me Tramadol as I already take duloxetine.
I then mentioned the feeling I have of a constant pressure on my throat. He checked me, and then asked me to wait while he phoned Orthopaedics. When he called me in he said they would be phoning me with an appointment to see the consultant next Wednesday, and that if I had not heard from them by Tuesday to ring him back. He only let me off going straight up to A and E for an xray if I promised him that I would go straight up there if I developed breathing problems.
So good to have a GP who listens and cares, he's already sent me up to A and E by ambulance twice before.

He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

It does help when we see our preferred doctors, doesn't it? My practice now has fifteen GPs and, although one can usually get an appointment on the day I've learned not to ask for 'my' GP because she's always fully-booked, I'll take whoever is free.
Yours sounds caring and that is a good thing. My experience of post-op stuff is that more pain relief is needed in the short-term thanks to the general 'upset' of the procedure before the greater benefits kick in. Healing takes time and can hurt. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Don't worry I will. I know that if it was really urgent my GP would do what he has done twice before, not given me a choice and just sent me straight up in an ambulance! He checked my oxygen and breathing. Doesn't nurt, jusr feels very uncomfortable. He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

I've just had the fortnight from hell thanks to birch pollen but at least I knew what was up; my asthma had reared it's less-than-pretty head again but things are easier now. If you are not used to breathing troubles then it is very disconcerting. Take things easy and I hope matters improve soon. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Breathing is fine thankfully otherwise I would have been sent up yesterday evening. Sorry to hear your's has been so bad. I used to get it when I was younger but luckily grew out of it. My daughter used to suffer badly in the summer as she used to get very bad hayfever which would trigger her asthma. Hope you are over the worst of it now.He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Hi
It does make such a difference to see a favourite GP
We have a few GP's in our practice but I was given one when I started there......she is oK....but there are nicer and more sympathetic ones there. I haven't actually asked to change but I do know if you have long standing illness like we have that they like you to see "your doc" I've made appointments on line with other docs before and they have seen me but I still have to go back to her.
Glad your breathing is OK now and hope your next appointment {Wed} goes well
Love
