I'm currently on 20mg of pred and cutting down the dose gradually, does anyone know if its safe to increase the dose to 25/30MG for one day only and then back to 20mg, I know nobody here is a doctor but some might have done this in the passed and I think I have but not 100% sure.

I need to be able to get to uni on Tuesday to demo my project else I will have to resit and submit in August along with 6 exams which I am already sitting in august.

On 20mg of pred I get near 0 benefit and am unable to get to uni that way, on 30mg I would get a small window each day where I can just about manage to get about.

I would usually ask a doctor but being the weekend and a bank holiday that's not going to be possible to seek advice by Tuesday

    Hi,

I can't offer advise but I would suggest ringing ure Out of Hours Drs Service to be on the safe side. Mine is 111 but ure GP practice should have answer phone message with how to contact ures!!

I'm wary of oral steroids personally, as lovely as they are. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Good luck, especially for Tuesday!!

Of course we don't know because we are not docs (mind you, at times they don't seem to know much either  ). I have learned over my arthritic years how to manage the triple beasts of arthritis, asthma and steroids but I can only speak from my experience: I recently had a week on around 30mgs for six days to help me cope with rampant asthma, started and felt the difference (then stopped and felt the difference  ).

How gradually are you cutting your dose of pred? It took me most of 2011 to stop, I reduced by either 1mg or 0.5mg every three weeks or so, so my body could 're-learn' its role: I don't think that a one day boost would harm but, as I said, I am not a doc. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I was on 80mg, cut to 60, 40, 20 and next week down to 15. My doctor told me to cut down the dose this quickly as I have also had IV steroids and a depo and seems the pred wasn't making a huge difference it's really not worth taking them at such a high dose, I think the plan is for me to stay on 10mg until I get my medication and then taper down gradually when my symptoms begin to ease.
