Apparently you shouldn't fully close your sharps bin until you've finished with it completely...

I didn't take heed...

I thought it was open before we set off for the holiday. So I shut the thing up thinking I was doing the right thing. I missed last weeks injection so didn't realise until I did today's meth. I tried to open the bin up. Not a chance lol.

So for now the empty needle is locked away in the safe in our room in the hotel.

Any ideas?

Thanks folks.

Sorry. I don't do the jabs so no suggestions at all. I hope you find one though.

Oh dear, Tony, what a mistake to make. I suggest you leave it where it is for the time being but go to a local pharmacy where, hopefully, someone will speak sufficient English to understand what has happened. Meth sharps require a special bin, they cannot be put into a general sharps. DD

Yup, but you're also new to this and mistakes are easily made. Take the packaging with you because it may have on it that all-important word 'cytotoxic'. DD

    I will hun.
I put the cap back on and placed it back in the packaging then into the safe.
I don't know if the sharps bins ever open again. They're designed not to at the end of the day lol.

I wouldn't mind but it's an empty bin.
Apparently I did the same thing with Mum's diabetes sharps bin.
    Doh.

I have no ideas on how to resolve this sorry, I just wanted to say you're not the first person to have done this. Many years ago I did this after my first injection and like yourself thought I was being safe and doing the right thing. It wasn't until I injected the following week that I noticed what a mistake I had made. It's easily done I guess if nobody tells us :(

Thanks :D as you say. I thought I was doing the right thing. However.... I should have read the instructions lol. I am entirely to blame.

Yup - but it's not a very blokey thing to do is it.... On the plus side,by sharing this you may prevent someone else from making the same mistake in the future.

TBH.. I've just left it in the safe lol.
I will make sure it is well packed away in the suitcase and take the nasty blighter home and HOPE (I have a sneaky feeling) that I haven't closed my main bin up too  :o
    lol

we are off to Blanes again this morning but after the other day's struggle we are getting a taxi. I only slept about half an hour last night and I'm rather paggered!
We won't be walking around much when we get there. It's mainly to show our friends the campsite we used to stay on. We are thinking of going back there next year.
We would save something in the region of £250 each. I know we will have food to buy but I doubt we would spend £1500 on food for the six of us lol.
We would be staying in a lodge on the site.

OK my spanish is a bit rusty but this should do it for the pharmacist.

Tengo una caja especial para desechar mis jeringas citotoxicas de metotrexato pero la he cerrado por accidente. Por favor, puede aconsejarme. Como puedo desechar la jeringa con seguridad?

(I have a special box for disposing of my cytotoxic methotrexate syringes but I have accidentally closed it. Could you please advise me? How can I dispose of the syringe safely?)

No need to practice it, Tony. Just copy it out.

Sorry to bang on but accidents do happen despite our best precautions and intentions and I really wouldn't want anyone close to me to be on the receiving end of someone else's used syringe or pen let alone a cytotoxic one.

You really wouldn't want to have to try and explain to Spanish security that you're not a junkie(or a terrorist) - and remember they don't just search your luggage when they go down that route!

    Grrrr.

Just lost everything I had written out. .

Basically, I have taken it to the local pharmacy and they understood what had happened and disposed of the offending item for me.

    Thank you all again. .

I am shattered now and need a siesta.
