Hi
Some of you will remember what happened weeks into recovery of 2nd THR........THE ABOVE
6 and a half months since THR and 5 and a half months since fracture I'm still in a lot of pain.
Still on two crutches most of the time.
When I waken up in the morning I'm in agony....in particular left hip bone.
I saw the consultant about it in June and he said next appointment in 6 months which is December CHRISTMAS  eek!!! I haven't actually got an appointment yet but December is 6 months away.
I doubt it my GP will deal with it.
I don't see consultant until about December.
Pain Clinic....haven't got an appointment.
I don't really expect any answers but just getting this off my chest
Thanks everyone for reading....if you have
Love
Hileena

That's awful! Can only begin to imagine how you must be feeling with such a long wait until you see the consultant again. 6 months is such a long time. I would discuss this with your GP though and keep in touch with him as he may be able to short cut the wait by sending you to A and E with a letter requesting orths see you.
Can't think of anything else to say except to say how sorry I am to hear this.
He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain, Hileena and, as you're an old hand at dealing with it, I assume you've done all the obvious stuff of rest, exercises, more rest and more exercises.

I think you're right that the GP can't do much other than offer more pain relief though either he or you could try to bring the appointment forward. My consultants always tell me to get in touch if I've a problem. Actually, your sums are wrong – December is 4 months away, not 6 but that's a long time when you're in a lot of pain.

If it's worst in the morning, have you tried altering how you sleep on it or are you still condemned to sleeping on your back? I find my THRs can kick in occasionally in the mornings if I've 'slept funny' on them. I find the best position for me is lying on the bad side and not bringing the other leg over the central line – a strategically placed pillow can help.

If all else fails I reckon it has to be more dullers and rest :(

Hileena I know how much you have been suffering, like SW says you are an old hand at this so things must be bad...its about time they took you seriously and got those appointments to you..I would certainly ask to see them earlier then they say..you carry on getting things off your chest...((())) xx

    Hi thanks everyone
Slosh......Sticky is right ...its 4 months from now until I see him but will have been 6 months since I last seen him if the appointment is actually December. He just said 6 months time....and I haven't got a date yet.
I suppose I should discuss it with my GP...she is one of these who listens to one thing and that's it....make another appointment and when about 8 minutes of your appointment is up she is at the door with her hand on the handle...not exactly saying get out but meaning it LOL

    Hi Sticky
You are right.....4 months away but 6 months since I last saw him :(
If the appointment is end of December that will be 10 months since it happened.....do your sums and tell me if that's right LOL Happened at end of Feb...THR end of Jan
I'm trying to rest as much as possible but am one of these people that if I'm stuck in the house I go crackers.....I'm volunteering tomorrow from 1.30 until about 4.30 with another AC volunteer.....we have a stand at a fair and give out info on AC or answer questions if we can and if we cant we just signpost them to someone who can......got a magic file with loads of numbers and email addresses in it LOL Sometimes people just want you to listen to them.
    I'm doing exercises {although a bit wary since this osteoporosis diagnosis} doing relaxation exercises {CD}
As for the GP and pain control.....I was going away for a week in a caravan. {tourer.....not a posh static LOL} and not very happy about sleeping at night.....2 settees pulled out together. I did ask her about extra pain relief just for the week. I'm on paracetamol, and anti inflammatory and codeine as needed {usually 2 x 15mg at night}She said no...nothing else....a couple of extra codeine 15mg during the day and that was it.
So not very hopeful on that score.
I might try ringing the consultants secretary tomorrow morning and see if she can get a message to him.
Its my left THR and L fracture and its the hip bone on that side that is agony when I waken......I do try to sleep on the other side {although I favour the L} but even with pillows I tend to almost roll over or at least onto my back which wakens me
    Thanks for your help Sticky

Oh poor Hileena. :( I agree that calling the consultant's secretary is a good option. If you get no joy that way, sometimes a GP letter can support the need for an early appt.

Give the pain clinic a buzz too and take it easy x

I've no idea how long such fractures take to heal but I imagine, given the timing of it, just after your THR, yours will take longer than most. My very limited understanding of the trochanter area is that it's where muscles attach so rest really is important to allow them to reattach properly.

In your situation I, too, would be a bit wary of sleeping on a makeshift bed for a week. Might a mattress topper help? How did you get on a couple of weeks back when you were going to Peterborough?

I wonder if your GP is worried that giving you more pain meds will only enable you to do more stuff you shouldn't be doing. You do have form on this, don't you

Why would the osteoporosis diagnosis make you wary of exercising? Surely we need more, not less :?

    Sticky

Me?????? Form  doing things I shouldn't be doing?
How can you think that of me
I managed OK in Peterborough thanks.....I was worrying about nothing. I was no sorer {or not much} than I am at home and my bed is comfortable.
I spread out a thick duvet, then a caravan memory topper, lay on that and brought the rest of the duvet over me.

Oh I know we need exercise but as we both know for OA and OP etc it has to be certain exercises. Not the wrong exercises.
I do exercises at home, I used to go to seated zumba with arthritis care but that's the exercise that worries me a bit....
We also have yoga....but not the usual "on the ground yoga" LOL I would never get up again
I go there once a week as well as exercises at home.
I was volunteering this afternoon so I'm sitting here in pj's doing very little
