I wrote this a couple of years ago. It's what I wish for all of you.
Whatever you believe
Whatever you believe about this night,
Christ child or Santa, midnight sleigh or star
or just commercial hype; whichever rite
is yours – shopfest, church, turkey, caviar;
whether an omnivore or gastronome,
a shrinking violet or a gigolo;
wherever you may find yourself – at home
or in exotic parts with sun or snow
I wish you laughter that will thaw your pain.
I wish you hope to overcome all fear.
I wish you, most of all, love to sustain
and nourish you throughout the coming year.
With stories, gifts and elbow grease we weave
the truth of love – the rest is make-believe.
