I remember with my first appointments I wasn't sure what to ask but found that questions would pop into mind during the consultation. Answer his as best you can, basing everything on a bad day rather than a good (they need to know what difficulties this knee is causing) and I hope you gain some insight as to what is going on in there. Please let us know how you get on. DD

People often worry about what to say but I tend to feel it's at least equally important to listen carefully. That way the questions we ask will be based on what the consultant is saying.

If there's anything you specifically want to know then go with that question but otherwise just relax and deal with things as they arise.

I hope it goes well. Please fill us in later :D

I know what you mean if you're like me you know it's your chance to speak and don't want to loos that chance.

I think it's a good thing to have thought about what you want him or her to know, write notes and then anything which hasn't come up naturally during the consultation you can say/ask then :)

    Hope it goes well

I tend to jot a few points down that I might wish to raise, and try and fix them in my head for the appointment, rather than take them out & read from a script.

Hope it goes well for you.

Not sure I can help with questions to ask but find it helps to play back to the consultant what I think I've heard. Hope it goes well

    Hi

Thank you all for your replies.

Well what a morning Consultant was lovely didn't rush me he has now said I have a Patella Alta (knee sitting high) this is why the knee wants to dislocate all the time also the trochlear groove is quite shallow so this has caused the Arthritis.

So he has ordered a 3d ct scan to compare with the mri and most likely he will decide then what type of surgery I will need. He also said with working I must sit down and not stand for long periods.

I'm apprehensive of the thought of surgery but also relieved that things are finally moving forward

I think that is, on the whole, good news, Mel. Your apprehension is all too understandable but it seems your surgeon is being thorough and patient. Also it sounds as if things can be very greatly improved for you which must be good.

I expect you'll have a few wobbles but we'll be here to steady you :D

Thank you for the update, this sounds promising. Your kneecap sits higher than it should so when it's repositioned and engaged properly with the femur then things should be improved, reducing the risk of full-blown OA. The kneecap has nothing to do with the knee joint so hopefully the surgery won't be too invasive. Has it dislocated in the past? DD

I have arthritis in the knee already I also have trochlear dysplasia as well as high sitting knee cap so a proper combination of problems ( I don't do half measures) ... as much as I can remember my knee has never fully dislocated until Feb this yr.. It has partially dislocated since I was a child.
