I got a letter from my consultants secretary to call her about arranging a date for my fusion operation so called her and the dates she had where not until next year and I told her Mr Guha said I needed it A.S.A.P and she read the notes and said Oh yes he has written that down let me see if we can squeeze you in sooner and she had only one date then she said would you be okay with going to Evesham if they can get you in sooner? Yes I replied 2hrs later get a call back 'sorry no can do', would this date be okay I know it will be a close shave for you recovering in time for your holiday 30th November? I took that date and she has put me on the list for a cancelation in case a sooner date comes free.
It is going to be a case of getting recovered enough for the 6th of January the date I go away on holiday but I'd rather go on holiday with the job done and recover in the sun.

That's good, bubbadog, but please run it past your travel insurance people to ensure you're covered.

Hope it goes well when the date comes round. Yes, I agree with SW's suggestion about checking with your travel insurance company. Best to be on the safe side! If it were me, I'd query it in writing - and ask for a response in writing.

Hopefully you'll get an earlier date so please keep us updated with what's happening.

good point about travel insurance guys never thought of that, and I will talk to travel agent got a good connection with ours about seating because it's a 6hr flight!
toe and foot fusion is to put plates in to weld it so you can't bend it. In my case because my left toe and left side of my foot is so painful I can't put it down my Orthopaedic consultant says it looks like swiss cheese or holey!!

It's very important to tell both your travel insurance people and your airline as different airlines have different rules. I'd also check, preferably with your surgeon but at least with your GP, about flying for 6 hours so soon afterwards. I wasn't allowed to fly long haul for 6 months after my THR / knee revision ops. This info from NHS Choices and London Orthopaedic Surgery should help.

I don't want to be a damp squib but your health is more important than a holiday and also, if you don't tell the airline they could refuse to let you on board (Will you be out of the boot by then?) and, if you don't tell the travel insurance people everything, they will refuse to pay for anything that goes wrong or, indeed, if you had to cancel.

Good luck with it all Bubba, I hope you manage to enjoy your holiday. My triple foot fusion was the best treatment/best results, I've ever had, I'm considering having the other foot done now.
