Hello 321ann and welcome to the forums from the moderation team.
I am very sorry to hear about your rotator cuff impingement.

If you have any problems at all using the forums please don’t hesitate to send us a message and we’ll do our best to help.

We have a great community here with lots of experience living day to day with arthritis and its issues.

Doing hobbies, such as you mention, can be a really effective way of distracting ourselves from pain, but obviously you don’t want to do any harm to yourself.

This link gives some useful information about living with pain.

There is a link within the article where you can download the Arthritis Care Booklet ‘Coping with Pain’.

I look forward to seeing you posting in future.

    Best wishes

    Ellen.

Hello, I've been thinking back to the days when I did similar things and I can't see that it will do you any harm as long as you are careful. My golden rule with any activity be it domestic or relaxing is stop when I think I can do more. Happy needleworking! DD

I don't have rotator cuff impingement, but do have OA in my hands. I cross stitch too and find, as DD has said, that it's a good idea to stitch until you find things are getting uncomfortable. Don't be tempted to carry on regardless because you 'just want to finish this bit'! You'll suffer for it later. :( Guess how I know this!

    Hello 321ann

Welcome to the forums from me too. I enjoy doing a little tapestry and sometimes crochet. I often do it with a wheaty (one of those microwavable wheat-bags) tucked behind me so actually helpful.

I also don't do sustained periods of more than an hour. I haven't had rotator cuff impingement, but I do have trigger point pain under my shoulder blades , (probably not as painful), so you have my sympathy.

    Love
