A couple of times lately I've had terrible pain in my arm followed by a finger getting totally stuck in a bent, closed position. I have to wait about 10 minutes before the pain subsides before i can release it with my other hand.
is this common with RA?

It has been with me, although in recent times it hasnt
happened very often.0 -
This happened to my Ma and she didn't have RA. I think you might be describing an event called trigger finger but, as you know, I am not a doc. I remember Ma having to force the bent digit back into position, it wasn't easy or pleasant for her. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I used to get the locked finger thing but without arm pain. I just waited until they 'softened up' then flicked them back with another finger. But I'd had years of barely-controlled RA. Get it checked out, Elizabeth, preferably with your rheumatologist. It might not be related (as DD has suggested) but it might be that the meds aren't working as well as they might. I hope it's something easily dealt with.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I have recently changed to rituximab and so far I haven't noticed any improvement in my overall health so it could be the meds aren't working. I've also had a couple of lengthy blood tests, plus the rituximab infusion and my right arm does look a little bit swollen.
Thanks for your input, I'd better get it checked out.

I usually put my hand into a basin of hot water, eventually I can manually straighten the finger /fingers, it's not pleasant though.
Sorry to hear the Retuximab may not be working.

Hasn't happened to me for quite a while but did happen quite often in the past. No arm pain though. I assumed it was to do with RA but can't be sure.Christine0

I have it happen regularly to my left little finger, it's been that way for years! It's locked up as I type now! It's almost like a double jointed thing. When I bend it you can just about hear the click and it bounces back into shape. I've been told by my G.P not to bend it as much as I can as every time I do it's making the joint get worse.0
