Hi there, its been quite a while since i last posted on here but thought it was time to get back to the community and see what everyone is doing to cope with their arthritis.
I have osteo arthritis in my hands, fingers, knees and back. I have ankylosing Spondolitis in my neck.
i have just had my second distal interphalangeal joint fusion on two of my fingers on my left hand. The other hand was done last year and the consultant used pins to fuse the joints. Different consultant this time and he used screws. I start my hand therapy tomorrow and still have splints on my fingers as i am waiting for an appt in feb to do x-rays to confirm that the joints have fused.
I wonder if anyone else has had this operation and if so how are you finding it different from before?

Sorry, I can't help. All my fused joints are DIY jobs. I hope this op is as successful as the first. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Lesley
I haven't had it done either, but Villier
has mentioned finger fusion on this thumb thread:
http://arthritiscareforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=36489&p=489546&hilit=finger+Joint+Fusion#p489546
and Dorcas mentions hers here:

I'm not sure if had screws though sorry just wanted you to know you are not alone.
Best of luck with your physio
