Next Tuesday I have another OH appointment in regards to my plans to apply for early retirement. Going by what I was told last time this one will be with an independent OH doctor and his/her assessment will be the key one in regards to the LA agreeing to support my application and be part of the evidence I will need to submit to the DfE (or whatever it's called these days).
Support needed please.
Support needed please.
He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Hi. I am with you on this one too. I too am considering early retirement. Nursing! can I ask ? Is it an emotionally painful process to face up to?
:running_dog:
Hi Kenbo
Thanks for the replies. Do call into the "Say Hello" or "Living With Arthritis" forums to introduce yourself and tells us a little more about yourself.

Is it emotionally painful? The honest answer has to be yes. Mine is from teaching and after teaching for over 30 years I found it was not just making the decision, which realistically my body made for me, or the work/idendity thing but how ingrained things like having a time-table to keep too and the routine of the school year were and it feels strange not getting ready for a new school year, but at the moment strange in a nice way.
At present I'm still on sick leave and have yet to submit my paperwork. I have got a lot of advice and support from my union, especially with the specialist officer in this area so I would advise you to do the same and do it before you start the process.
But, there are benefits. I can now work with my body, rather than trying to push against it, and I have the personal satisfaction of having done my best to try to manage work with my personal combination of problems. I see more of my daughter and my youngest grandchild. I have also had more time to devote to my fledgling jewellery business and that has also provided me with not just a creative outlet but also one for my brain as I've been learning and continue to learn new online selling skills.
It also helps that I have a good GP who talked this decision through with me, is supportive and who also checks that I am not slipping back into depression.
Lastly so far at least it has not been a quick process, I've been off work since the second week of the summer term, but that I have also found helpful as it gives me time to readjust.
Sorry this has been so long.He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Sorry I'm a bit late to reply but I will definitely be with you. You can do this.0

Thanks all. Didn't sleep well last night which isn't really surprising. The hardest thing is having to be honest about how difficult teaching/working has become for me and also how it impacts on me at home as I am very good at glossing over stuff. He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Sending love, hugs and positive thoughts for today Slosh. Things will work out, and your body will thank you for allowing yourself to step back and move on to pastures now.

Hi
I hope things go well for you today x

Thanks all.
Well it wasn't a different Dr as I had been led to expect but the usual one who I have seen several times before and so knew my history.
It wasn't a great day so I had taken my rollator as my shoulders were too painful for crutches and I knew it was quite a walk to the OH dept from the entrance.
I will get a copy of his report but he read it through to me and it is very supportive. He mentions that I have tried to keep working but that despite adaptations and reducing my hours I am now finding it too hard and also that I have a degenerative condition.
So now it's a case of waiting for my next appointment with the school business manager and HR at which I need to convince them to sign my application form. As I really don't like/trust our allocated HR rep I will have support from my union at that meeting.
Thanks for the support. He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Well at least that's another hurdle staggered through!
I think taking your union rep as support is a really good idea, maybe it's a plan to have all your facts/information written down to take with you so that everything is clearly stated and you have answers to any questions etc.
Take good care of yourself.

Don't worry, I will be prepared. He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

I'm glad it's over with and it sounds to have gone well. I was thinking of you off and on all day but never quite managed to get on the forum before now.
Onwards and (as DD says) sidewaysIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
Steven Wright0 -
Well, you did it. Sounds like a difficult day but you got through it. I think taking a union rep is a very sensible idea. You need all the support you can get. I'll have my fingers crossed for you. Take care x0

Thank you both.He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Thank you. The support on here is invaluable, I know I wouldn't be coping as well without it.He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

At least you know it's a step at a time and you will have the support of the Union rep at the meeting. And of course you have all our support as well!! Now you can breath that hurdle is over and get ready for the next meeting with the school business manager.0
