Time was when I kept my body in as reasonable nick as possible so that I could enjoy life despite RA. Now Body Maintenance IS my life.

Exercises – daily.
Blood tests – at least four times per year.
Asthma check – annually.
Dentist – at least twice per year.
Rheumatologist – at least annually.
Orthopaedic surgeon – at least annually
Podiatrist – every three months.
Orthotist – whenever shoes need repair or go wrong
G.P. - when general stuff goes wrong.
Other specialists – when other stuff goes wrong (usually one a year)

God bless the NHS! I apologise if no-one else can get appointments. Just blame me

That's a fair few appointments there sticky, good job it's covered by the NHS.
Imagine if we had to pay private for all our appointments (I pay private for my dentist, but that's due to having no NHS dentists in my home town).

It appears to need more intervention to maintain our bodies as we age. Rheumatology used to be every twelve weeks for me but that's reduced to once every six months or so thanks to the numbers of patients being diagnosed.

I am differently exercising every day (which is a new thing for me) and yes, it's making a positive difference to things. Maybe that will stave off some future medical interventions! Mind you, I have to go and see a doc to ask for some tramadol. I cannot help but feel that this is a waste of both our times, I've been issued it before (the last time in May) so I'm hardly overdosing. DD

Alastair, I have a son in USA so I know the value of the NHS. Obamacare doesn't mean free treatment: it simply means the medical insurers can't refuse you because you have a pre-existing condition.

    Hi SW

so thats why I cant get an appointment !!! only joking think I can beat you for appointments at the moment but hope that will not always be the case - think of my body as a Forth Bridge exercise - the minute I turn my back to pay attention to something new something else falls off!! I also am grateful for the NHS although also feeling frustrated with them at present for the lack of co-ordination
