I have been diagnosed with severe arthritis both shoulders. Both joints very stiff with limited functionality. Reluctantly looking at prospect of surgery. Any experience/advice will be welcome.

Hi Copeland
welcome to the online community, I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with arthritis in your shoulders, this is indeed very painful and can be very restricting for you. Shoulder surgery is quite common these days, we do have a general booklet looking at considering surgery here https://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/assets/000/001/886/Surgery_2017_Update_original.pdf?1510587555
Also some specific information on shoulder surgery here https://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis-information/surgery/shoulder-and-elbow-replacement.aspx
There are also members here who have had this or similar surgery who will be able to support and share with you. We are here to support you during this time so please ask as many questions as you like and let us know how you get on
Best Wishes

Hello, I have two kinds of arthritis with around forty affected joints, so far my shoulders are generally OK but I can be reasonably confident that won't last! We have had people on here in the past with shoulder issues but once they are sorted they tend to disappear from the forum, leaving those who can't be fixed to offer support and encouragement.
The search engine on here is not too wonderful (it's creaky like the forum users ) but you may be able to find some past threads about this issue. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi there.
I know quite a lot about shoulder pain but not very much about shoulder surgery as I've never had it.
We have had people on here who have had it and I presume it's worked well for them.
I do know a lady who had a very successful shoulder replacement last year but.......her local hospital was reluctant to do it because she was - a very fit - octogenarian. Also, she asked how many such operations the surgeon had performed. It was very few indeed. She had the finances to go privately to a large orthopaedic hospital about an hour away. The surgeon there had done 200-300 such ops and was happy to operate on her. She is a former physiotherapist so was assiduous in her recovery exercises. The result is one happy lady.
Here is some info on shoulder pain from the reliable ARUK site https://tinyurl.com/ybarz2fxIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
