DWP to scrap repeat PIP disability benefit tests for 270,000 people
The commitment forms part of a wider package of measures, to be set out in a speech on Tuesday to the disability charity Scope
From the spring of this year, around 270,000 disabled pensioners will not have their personal independence payment (PIP) awards regularly reviewed, Ms Rudd will say.
The commitment forms part of a wider package of measures, to be set out in a speech on Tuesday to the disability charity Scope, intended to "level the terrain" for disabled people.
Ms Rudd will draw on her own family experience of disability to stress her determination to ensure that those who have paid into the system all their lives receive support when they need it most.
"Disabled pensioners have paid into our system for their whole lives and deserve the full support of the state when they need it most.

I wonder if there's been some behind the scenes number crunching which has concluded that frequent reviews and the inevitable mountain of appeals most(74% is currently the tally I believe) of which are subsequently lost by the DWP is more expensive that simply continuing to make the payments?
Doing the right thing because it needs doing has not been a feature of government for a very very long time; there has to be either a big PR payback or something like a legal challenge - preferably both for things to change within a halfway reasonable time-frame.0 -
