Hello I am in the process of completing my a PIP. I have had RA for 30+ years and now on biologics and methotrexate after all the other meds failed after a time. I have seen my consultant rheumatologist and specialist nurse regularly, especially so since starting the biologics and following a download spiral with my health. As my application will be fully supported with up to date records of medications and records of hospital appointment consultant letters, disabled parking permit at work am I still likely to have to have a face to face assessment? TIA.

Every PIP applicant has a face to face even when renewing and the DWP are provided with evidence of worsening conditions. Make sure that you take someone with you who knows you and your condition and can take notes.

I am in the same position, Cressida, and fully expect to be called in although the bumph states one 'might' be summoned. The healthy people who assess are not capable of so doing (as they repeatedly demonstrate) but there again we never hear it those for whom it is a straightforward process: I suspect they number more highly then anyone thinks. Thanks for the response, I don't really have anyone to take with me. Is that going to be a problem?

Well, I suppose I'll have to wait and see, on first glance the form seemed quite straightforward but it's pretty complex isn't it. Good luck with yours. Have you submitted it yet? My deadline is next week and I'll probably be tweaking it until the last minute.

Yes, i put up a thread here entitled PIP form completed. It went in a week before my due date in their pre-paid envelope. Not my fault if it doesn't get there, got proof of postage. :) I have a copy incase it fails to arrive. DD

Going alone is not a problem BUT taking someone with you means you have a witness to what happens during the assessment. On one occasion an assessor put in her report that I had no trouble walking or sitting/standing I HAVE TO USE CRUTCHES AND A WHEELCHAIR plus to get off a "normal" chair I have to slide onto the floor and clamber my way back onto my feet with assistance. There were also other inaccuracies/bare faced lies in the report. Needless to say I went to appeal and my Sister who I took with me was able to provide a statement proving that the assessor lied in her report.

You can take anyone with you, a friend, neighbour, maybe someone from the CAB and in some cases if your Council (like mine) has an Equality and Diversity Team they can help complete paperwork and accompany you to the assessment.
