It's because it isn't moving and bent at 90 degrees or so. We easily stiffen up when we sit still for too long. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Over my arthritic years I have learned to gently exercise my legs before standing so as to stretch my tendons etc. It still hurts when I stand and move but that is the nature of the beast. Arthritis hurts, sometimes a little but mostly a lot. DD

Try a little gentle heat on your knees whilst you're sitting. A wheat bag or similar placed in the microwave for around two mins with half inch of water in an old mug will soak up the steam and keep warm for about thirty mins. Heat will ease the pain.

My wife makes me all different shapes, the family come in and pinch them I have to keep asking for another!

I sit in a recliner most of the day, primarily to ease the pain in my back but it also helps relieve knee pain too. It was provided by my Council's OTs after an at home assessment by them. If you have not got a recliner or cannot get one try a pouffe or similar.
