I am 65 year old woman with arthritis and new to this site in my nerve ends in the lower part of my back right across my back.

I have had this around 12 years. First injuring my back when I was 19. An accident occurred in the dentist chair. Eventually, two years on I had treatment that seemed to do the trick and had no more major problems until my fifties, then bang .

I also have quite badly mis-shaped fingers which are sore all the time.

My Rheumatology department do not know what to do with me ( this is their quote not mine)as most of the standard medications do not seem to work on my pain.

Can anyone who may have had trouble with medication help with advice or comments that may help?

I feel like a lost cause and I am really struggling .

Thank you.

    Hi @Fantazey

Thanks for getting in touch with us - you are very welcome to the Versus Arthritis forum.

You have Rheumatoid Arthritis (I am assuming as you attend a Rheumatology Department?) and are struggling with pain and would like more information on medication.

Our information online about RA & medication and pain might be useful for you to start with:

There is a wealth of experience and tips amongst our members here so I am sure someone will be along shortly with something to share with you. Please remember that you are most definitely not a lost cause - you're in the right place now to get some support and you're not alone.

Do also have a look around within the chats - you might find very similar questions being asked.

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Best Wishes

Hello, it's nice to meet you and I am sorry you have had to find us. I am in my 24th year of psoriatic arthritis and not once have any of the meds eased my pain to any noticeable degree (and I include the pain dullers in that group). I alao have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. What arthritis do you have and what meds have you tried? Do you know what your last blood tests showed? DD

Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi @Fantazey

Lovely to meet you. I am so sorry you are struggling so much and have been for such along time too 😕 Pain is so tough to deal with isn't it?

So you see a Rheumatologist and she/he has no idea how to help🤔 Have you tried a pain clinic? What i like about them is that they specialise in PAIN! and don't give up easily either.

If you are happy to give it a go - and what have you got to loose - your GP can refer you.

I have found both CBD oil and acupuncture useful. If you PM me I would be happy to direct you to the website where I purchase the former.

Paid nearly a grand for a 3 month course of acupuncture with no positive effect; similarly over £100 on CBD oil, both drops and inhaled, and again no positive effect. Just goes to show what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Anything is worth a try though so I wouldn't put anyone off giving anything a go, no matter how whacky.

I got mine from a specialist shop in Truro, I went there and spoke to the owner about my issues and accepted his recommendation. Gave it a good try as I never expect anything to work straight away but it was a waste of time and money regrettably.

Oh Im sorry to hear that Mike, horrendous amount of money to pay for no result. What it does show me is that Im not being ripped off. I am paying approx £41 quid for 600mg 20ml . Alas on top £7 postage which I begrudge 🤣 watch this space as they say. if I get on with it I will buy the larger size which wont be so bad. Thank again MIke. Hope you find something that hits the button✌️

I sympathise - that is a huge sum of money and certainly after three months one would expect some benefit if it were going to be achieved.

Out of interest do you know if they used the Traditional Chinese Model or the western medical model ? Put it this way if they were of Chinese ancestry it would almost certainly be the former. I personally find this system more efficacious than the latter even though viewed within a scientific framework this should not be the case.

I found with CBD oil that it did take some time before I really enjoyed significant benefit although I began to feel a difference after a couple of weeks.

As you say what works for one does not necessarily work for another.
