Stem cell treatment
Good morning,
I have arthritis in one of my knees and also back pain where I have been walking badly. After a long wait to see the orthopaedic surgeon I am now on a long waiting list for a replacement knee. Meanwhile I am in a lot of pain and can hardly walk. I also have Parkinson's disease although this doesn't affect my mobility,.
I have recently seen information on Stem Cell Therapy which claims to help with Arthritis in a non invasive way, I believe that the NHS are offering this treatment. I don't know much about this, do you have information about this.
Any help would be appreciated
Many thanks
Gaye Rogerson

Hi @Gaye and welcome to the Versus Arthritis forum.
I see that you have arthritis in one knee and are on the waiting list for a replacement. You experience pain on an ongoing basis impeding movement such as walking.
The main Versus Arthritis site has information on Stem Cell Therapy, you may find this link useful:
https://www.versusarthritis.org/search?query=stem+cell+therapy
I don’t personally know whether the NHS provide stem cell therapy but other forum members will no doubt be able to able to shed some light.
I hope that you find being a member of the forum of value.
If at any time you fell it would be useful then please do call our free Helpline on 0800 5200 520, or email helpline@versusarthritis.org (Mon - Fri 9:00am – 8:00pm) if you ever feel they could be of help.

Hi Gaye
Thank you for your posting on the forum. I am sorry to hear that you have a long wait for a replacement knee and that you also have back pain where you have been walking badly. I see that you have already received a response from Chrisb signposting you to our information and research on stem cell therapy. You would need to speak to your GP or consultant about availability. You may also find the following information on knee replacement surgery helpful. This also contains information on research and possible new developments. https://www.versusarthritis.org/about-arthritis/treatments/surgery/knee-replacement-surgery/
You could also speak to your GP about a review of any pain relief you may be using. Your post does not say specifically the type of arthritis you have but we do have information on managing osteoarthritis of the knee
https://www.versusarthritis.org/about-arthritis/conditions/osteoarthritis-of-the-knee/
We also have information on back pain and how to manage this that may be helpful to you https://www.versusarthritis.org/about-arthritis/conditions/back-pain/
You are very welcome to call us here on the helpline where you can talk things through with one of our helpline team. Our contact details are 0800 5200 520 (weekdays 9am – 8pm).
I hope the above information is helpful to you.
Best Wishes
Dawn
