I’m sorry no one has come back to you sooner Jadelady. It’s really hard to advise on this, it’s not something that is happened to me. You may already have sorted this out by now, but I think your suggestion to try ice packs first is a good one. Possibly also take some anti inflammatories, if you have some. This will take the swelling down a bit, and may get your knee moving again. I’m not sure what they could do at A&E, other than anti-inflammatories and manipulation, but then I’m no expert. I do think you should speak with your GP about this though, to see if they can do anything to avoid this happening again, it must be very scary and painful for you.

I hope this has sorted itself out by now. My knees used to lock before I had them replaced. Very annoying and inconvenient when I couldn't bend them to get them out of the way of passing feet! I fond that, in time, they just 'thawed out' as I called it. Maybe ten or fifteen minu tes. Then I could very gradually bend them again. Sometimes I could speed the process up a bit by grasping the knee firmly in both hands.

Prevention is better than cure. If you do these knee exercises daily it's less likely to happen https://www.versusarthritis.org/about-arthritis/exercising-with-arthritis/exercises-for-healthy-joints/exercises-for-the-knees/ And try to do them when you've been on your feet for too long. You won't feel like it but they really do help. Go gently and slowly, though.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
