Pain relief
Hi it’s my first time on versus arthritis, it’s been a bad day and the pain relief I take make me feel worse, it’s so getting me down.
I don’t know what to do for the best, I have widespread arthritis and if i rid of pain in one place I get it in another place.

Hi @Sandiebea, welcome to the Online Community! It's lovely to have you here.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having a bad day and that your pain relief isn't working for you at the moment. You've come to the right place to vent and talk with people who understand how you're feeling.
It's common to have ups and downs but if this is a consistent problem it might be worth talking to your doctor about alternative options for treatment. Here's a resource about pain that you might find helpful:
Do please keep us updated on how you're getting on, and feel free to join in any discussion you fancy.
Best wishes, Sarah (moderator)

Hi Sandiebea. Afraid it's just like that - I've often said that my body parts take it in turn to play up! Don't despair, accept and overcome, you will learn how to live with it and still have a Life! Your Rheumatology team are deeply knowledgeable, plus your GP and the Arthritis forums to support you. All is not lost, I promise you. Sarah, Moderator, offers great signposts for research, esp. the pain inherent in the condition. Best wishes x

Pain is very draining and we all seem to have bad days and not so bad days! If you have not yet been referred ask your GP to refer you to your local Pain Clinic who will try different meds and treatments as we are all different. Failing that try distraction techniques, all this means is doing something that you enjoy and can do whether it is watching TV, reading, knitting, making models, cuddling the cat or whatever; it does help a bit by taking your mind off the pain. Try not to rely on just the meds helping you out as, through experience, none of them get rid of the pain, they merely knock the edge off; I have been on Morphine for years and speaking to my GP last week about a significant new issue all he suggested was upping the dose which I resisted.

Hi @Sandiebea
I am so sorry that yesterday was such a tough day for you I hope that today is better.
It sounds as though your pain meds need looking at to find something that won't make you feel worse😕
Mike's advice about seeing a pain clinic will really help that it their specialism. It's what they do all day every day.
In the meantime talk to us lot tell us what you've tried. I am prescribed the 'heavy stuff', but never underestimate the power of a simple warm wheatbag (the type you microwave) or and ice pack in a teatowel on swollen joints.
Take care and keep talking
