Hello

My name is Brenda and I am 67yrs old.

I have been diagnosed with arthritis in both wrists and Trapezium bones in both hands. Have had it 15yrs and until recently did not know I could have surgery to help, which I have been put on the list to have the right one done. I also have severe arthritis in my spine, in both hips and at the moment feel very down about it all. I also have bursitis in both hips and cannot sleep on the right one. I am seeing an assessor this week regarding my spine, although I don’t know what he can do. I am finding walking more difficult now and most jobs I try to do are very difficult now. It’s so frustrating and I don’t complain, but at time want to say no to activity’s I am ask to go on. But I feel I will be spilling my husbands fun if I do. He is understanding, but I don’t think he realises how painful it is most days.

Any advice from anyone would be appreciated.

Regards Brenda

    Hi @Brenda

Welcome to the Versus Arthritis forum.

I see that you have arthritis in multiple joints and have suffered from bursitis in your hips. Not surprisingly, at times, the symptoms are getting you down.

The forum is a great place to share your situation and the way you are currently feeling as many others will be able to relate to your experience and hopefully be able to offer you some useful advice.

You may have already visited our website but just in case you haven’t you may find the following links useful:

    Hi Brenda,

Lovely to meet you, I completely understand how you feel I’m the same I feel bad about letting my sons and grandchildren down but you really shouldn’t punish yourself I have for a long time be kind to yourself we don’t ask for what befalls us we just try to survive it I’m sure your husband understands please show him some of the others here comments maybe he can learn to help, mine took to the hills he said he wasn’t being left to look after a cripple but he was a very bad person obviously not worth ant thought from me and he doesn’t get it either but you must tell him and explain how it is for you then he can understand and help you

take care and be kind to yourself it’s called self love 💐💐😊

Thank you so much. It does help to talk to other people. My husband is very good, and I know he would never walk away, but I am terrible at giving in to the pain. Lots of other people do say , Oh your better keeping going, don’t give into it, but some days it’s so painful , I have to stop. I know when I spoke to the Dr at the hospital a couple of weeks ago about having surgery on my Trapezium bone, he said well it will get worse, so do you want to wait a bit longer before we go ahead. I was so annoyed with him. I have had it for 15yrs and just would love to have one part of my body pain free. He was not my usually specialist, and had no idea the pain and disability it causes. That’s what makes me feel that maybe I need to put up with it more sometimes, but I am not and will go ahead with surgery. Thanks for listening to my moan.

Hi Brenda. I’m sorry to hear you are struggling so much. I understand your frustration - not being able to do the everyday things without pain is hard to adjust to. Each one of us has a unique set of circumstances - I think it’s important to really get to know and understand yourself and your relationship with your condition. You have to do the things to manage that are right for you - it’s hard but empowering at the same time.

    Best wishes
