weird -move big toe & knee hurts

I have realised something really weird- I have a badly arthritic knee ( waiting to be replaced) and have realised when I move my big toe I get stabbing pains in the knee...no pain in the big toe- its knee that hurts... how? why? its plain odd. anyone else get this or know what is going on there? thank you
