Just been diagnosed with mild osteoarthritis - the hip pain does not feel mild though!

Welcome to the online community- you're in the right place. I see you've got a diagnosis of osteoarthritis and that your hips are painful. There are many things that you can do to try and ease this while you await treatment from your GP, here are some of our links:
