It Never Ends........
In the last 10 years I have had right and left hip replacements, a particial knee replace, osteo-necrosis and a muscle repair due to muscle being caught in new hip joint which then tore. In August 2021 I had a total left hip replacement due to the osteo necrosis and in November 2021, the muscle repair which I am currently recovering from. Just when I thought my life would get back to normal I am now being kept awake at night by severe pain and tingling in both knees. I am so fed up with this and don't know what to do tohelop myself. I am starting hydro-therapy for help with the left hip and right hip muscle recovery shortly but now think I need my knees operated on. Where does it end? My consultant is so dismissive about it all and I basically feel that I just have to get on with it taking medication and pain killers every day which don't seem to make a difference. Anyone out there who has experienced the same and turned things around?

Hi @Anna53
Welcome to the versus arthritis forum.
You really have been unfortunate with the number of joint replacements that you’ve had to undergo. I can understand why you feel fed up having had so many procedures but still suffering with pain and possibly facing further operations.
Well you’ve definitely come to the right place to ask the question has anyone else faced a similar experience and how they’ve coped. I’m sure you’ll find that there are other forum members who have been through a similar journey and can share their thoughts/experiences with you.

I would encourage you to join as many discussion threads as you feel appropriate in order to receive maximum feedback and support.

OA is often a lifetimes complaint and treating it should perhaps be seen in the same light? We are all impatient and would love to flick a switch and get help but OA is something that we must bear with as are many other of life’s debilitating conditions. Try giving yourself a bit more leeway, enjoying life as it is, I major on my hobbies and doing that is totally absorbing often to the detriment of getting my household jobs done! Who wants to clean and hoover every day anyway?
I can almost guarantee that after another op or treatment your mind will turn to another problem, remember it’s the pain that hurts most at the time that attracts your attention most and it will usually mask other pains. Our emotional well-being will follow along behind our physical condition and we must remember that it’s impossible to be ‘up’ all the time and the variation in our emotions are just a part of our normal lives. Be kind to yourself and look forward to ‘tomorrow will be a good day’.
Must go and get the paint and glue off my jeans before presenting myself back indoors. 🤣
its a grin, honest!

Hi Anna53 - it sounds as if you’re having a really rough time of it at the moment, but it’s good that you’ll be starting hydrotherapy soon. I’m sure it’ll help. Can your GP sort out your medication. Mine was changed a couple of months ago and made a huge difference - for a while! I hope your consultant is going to take x rays of your knees to try and establish what this new pain is all about.
I have osteo necrosis and stage 4 osteoarthritis in both hips and need replacements. Unfortunately the NHS waiting lists are really long, it I have a review with the consultant this coming Friday and I’m hoping that he’ll give me some good news about surgery. Currently I can’t weight bear, but can walk a few yards with a walker. You’re the first person I’ve come across with osteonecrosis - can I ask you if your recovery (apart from muscle trap/tear) was successful? I’m quite worried about post op - when I’ll have a recovering hip and a collapsed hip. Any advice would be great. Pat
