Steroid injection

I was finally seen last week at the MSK clinic, some 14 weeks after X-rays showed problems in lumber spine, hips and knees.
I had previously only had a telephone consultation with the clinic but was referred to attend in person for a steroid injection in my left knee which is the most painful place.
However the physio at the clinic declined to give me an injection as she said that the knee had no cartilage left, was bone on bone and was therefore mechanical pain rather than inflammatory. She said a knee replacement was my only option but gave me exercises to do for my knees and back.
I read of here of others having steroid injections so want some what taken aback.
