Hi I've been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia, they think I've had dysplasia from birth, my pain is so bad some nights, I take tramadol and paracetamol 500s, it does work to an extent, I struggle to dress myself , sockets on the side of my bad hip, I used to walk miles a day with dog, struggle to go round shops now, I'm awaiting an appointment with a surgeon, but could take up to a year, I am over weight and struggling to lose it due to not being able to do much activity, what do you all use? What do u do to keep pain down ? I get a lot of pain down my leg , side and front thigh into my knee .

  • Hi @Pod, welcome to the online community, it's lovely to have you here.

I see that you are living with osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia and are struggling with mobility while waiting for surgery. I'm sorry that you have such a long wait, I know lots of people here can relate to that frustration.

I've included a link to a page all about hip pain, it has some useful tips. It also has a video that takes you through some gentle exercises/stretches - they're more about keeping the hip strong and lubricated to improve mobility and pain than trying to lose weight, and you can do as much or as little as you can manage. I appreciate that its really difficult to exercise and lose weight when you're in so much pain, even though you know it would help to take strain off your hip, so this might be a good middle ground for you.

Please do continue to make posts, it's good to talk.

    Best wishes, Sarah (moderator)
