Hi I've had arthritis for many years but recently got diagnosed with Osteoarthritis too.

My hands hurt, my feet hurt and my left knee doesn't like bending.

So far I'm not taking any pain relief as I'm not aware there is anything aa nobody has given me that information.

    Hello and welcome.

I'm guessing, from your first sentence, that you've had RA or some other form of inflammatory arthritis for years and now OA has set in too. There are a few of us on here who have 'done the double'. It's not great but not too unusual.

I guess treatment will depend on whether the pain is coming mostly from the RA or OA. What does your rheumatologist say? How are your blood tests? if the RA is not well-controlled your DMARDS might need tweaking a bit. If the bloods are OK then it's the OA and purely a matter of exercises (see those on here), diet (sensible Mediterranean type) and pain relief which your GP an prescribe. You can also buy pain relief over the counter but do ask the pharmacist what is suitable given the other meds you're on. Pharmacists are very knowledgeable about such things. Good luck!

I'm feeling the same way, Sharon😀

Let's take it from the top, shall we?

You say you have " recently got diagnosed with Osteoarthritis " but also that you've "had arthritis for many years".

I'm wondering which type of arthritis you had before the recent diagnosis of osteo and how that was dealt with.

There are pills for all sorts of arthritis but, even better, for osteo, is exercise, a healthy diet and distraction.

Do let's know how we can help.
