Medication
- Methotrexate
- Hydroxychloroquine
- Sulfasalazine
- Leflunomide
Have tried all of the above other than leflunomide my RA nurse did mention trying it but rheumatologist turned me down. At the time my liver was not in a good place. I work for the nhs and I feel that was due to cost. Due to pandemic I’ve not seen nurse/rheumatologist for a while and am thinking of contacting them to try again for leflunomide. Can anyone tell me what you’ve experienced on this drug.?
currently I’m only on painkillers and nothing to slow down the RA. My hands and knees are really bad and I’m taking bloody and giving injections at work. I’m 47 next week:

Hi @Michelle0126 welcome to the Online Community.
I understand you have rheumatoid arthritis in both hands and knees and have tried a number of medications but are now currently only using pain killers. Access to rheumatology staff has naturally been difficult due to the pandemic and you are now looking for members who have personal experience of taking leflunomide to say how it has worked for them.
Our web site has good information on leflunomide, including restrictions on who is able to be prescribed the DMARD, as well as side effects and risks:
There are a few members who take or have taken leflunomide who may also be able to answer questions about their experience - mentioning @stickywicket and @Kitty to see if they might like to help!
All best wishes
Brynmor
