Hi @ukjane
Lovely to meet you, I’m glad you found us, as you post around here you will get to know others in a similar position to yourself both in where your arthritis is sited and in symptoms, most of us have issues with pain, fatigue, brain fog and so on.
You have arthritis affecting your spine which causes burning pains in your legs and pins and needles. Your back is also throbbing.
Your GP can give pain relief if over the counter meds aren’t up to it. You can also try to distract yourself from the pain, I’m giving you a link to our information on pain management in the hopes you will find something you haven’t tried yet or maybe something you have forgotten!
Your pain sounds like sciatica, we aren't medical so can’t diagnose, this is what the NHS term sciatica
Do post on specific issues in the living with arthritis category https://community.versusarthritis.org/categories/living-with-arthritis-forum and do post wherever you can offer support too
Take care

Hi @ukjane
I don't have lower back or the kind of leg pain you are describing but I know about pain and how overwhelming it can be. I have just asked the GP to let me try capsaicin cream for OA in my neck, maybe that would help you too? I also use a wheat bag that I heat up in the microwave and that is instant relief.

Hiya @ukjane ,
I am 55 years old and I have Osteoarthritis in my lower back. After some complaining to my GP I got referred to a specialist back physio. The exercises he gave me really helped. I try and do a lot of walking and do ballet and stretch classes which have helped. My physio said the more I move in the day the better I will sleep. I didn’t believe him at the time but he was right. I mostly only need painkillers at night now . I use 2x 30/500 cocodamol and 20mg nortriptyline . If I still have pain at night I take naproxen and use a heat patch that lasts all night. Finding the right painkillers is difficult so try different combinations to see what works for you. I also have a 4 inch memory foam topper on my bed which is so much more comfortable than just a mattress. Two years ago I was in pain day and night and too scared to do much of anything in case I made the pain worse. A good physio helped me understand that mostly exercise will make the pain less not more. There a still some things that I can’t do but I can do more than I thought I could. I think you eventually get used to a certain level of pain over time. I hope you find a way to reduce your pain
