I was diagnosed with this in my left knee a year ago. I had pain in the knee and my consultant said i had a torn meniscus cartlidge in the knee. Also osteo arthritis.

I had keyhole surgery in sept 2021 to remove meniscus, but was told arthritis was much worse than initially thought. It ran rife and on 31 Jan 2022 I had full knee replacement surgery and am recovering now.

Does this mean the osteo arthritis has gone as it was potentially cut out or will it have travelled? Is it something that once you have it in your body thst it will travel in your blood and settle somewhere else.

I ask because I now hurt all over both legs, hips, and hands.

I am 59 yr old post menopausal woman, and dont take any HRT?

Hi @Pip1 and welcome to the Online Community.

I understand you have osteoarthritis and this has resulted in full knee replacement surgery. You now have pain in hands, hips and legs and now need to find out if this may also be osteoarthritis.

It does sound as though the cartilage in some of your joints is beginning to wear and this can indeed be osteoarthritis. Our web site has detailed information and links that may help with understanding the condition:

The information covers tips for managing symptoms, coping with pain and also ideas to help live with osteoarthritis.

Only a doctor can give you a medical diagnosis and prescribe a course of treatment to help manage the condition. After reading the information, it may well be that you would want to make an appointment to see your GP to discuss things with them. A great way to prepare is to list the questions you want answered at the consultation.

Do join in across the Community, ask questions and give support. Do call in for a chat to say how you are getting on. You will be most welcome.

    All best wishes

Osteoarthritis seems to behave in a couple of ways. There are those who have damaged a knee or other joint and have found only that joint is impacted. Then there are others who have OA in a number of joints in a fairly short time span, so it's hard to say what your experience will be.

Hope your recovery is going really well
