Hi everyone, I’m Diba!

I was diagnosed with JIA in my knee when I was 8 years old and have had it for about 12 years now. I’ve had quite a bad flare up recently and have been really struggling to do day to day activities, especially being a uni student. It’s been really hard not being able to talk to anyone about my condition and how it’s been affecting me lately so I thought I’d join this online community to hopefully talk to people going through a similar thing and maybe get some advice! I’ll finally be going on methotrexate this month after years of ibuprofen and steroid injections, I was wondering how other people feel about it as a long term treatment compared to other DMARDS?

Hi @diba and welcome to the online community,

You’ve had JIA since the age of eight. You’re now 20 and have recently had a flare-up and you’d like to talk to others who have had similar experiences especially of starting on methotrexate. Well, you’ve come to the right place! All our members have experienced arthritis in their lives and are happy to share their experiences and their stories.

Methotrexate is a well-used treatment with a good success rate. Versus Arthritis has a page on it that you might find useful to read as a start:

Theres also a page especially for young people who have arthritis and there’s a section on university that might be helpful:

Also, if you want to chat to other people your age who have similar conditions, you could have a look at the young people’s forum. Scroll through and join any conversations you feel comfortable, or start a new post:

I hope you enjoy being part of this friendly community!
