My finger needs surgery. Who is the best orthopaedic finger surgeon please?

Can’t stand the pain much longer.

    Afternoon @Zsazsa

Welcome to the Online Community Forum. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer advice as to which surgeon you can go to. However maybe go to your GP or your consultant they might be able to help you a lot better.

To help you with the pain and the arthritis side of it, I have attached some links for you to have a look at. Hope these helps.

    Thanks AJ-x

the reason for coming on this forum was to get information. My GP has not been helpful as he thinks surgery is unnecessary. I have constant pain in my fingers. I am 70 years old. Both my parents are still alive and living in their own home relatively independently so I would expect to also live to that sort of age but the prospect of another 25 years of constant pain is depressing.

Whats the point of a forum if you cannot get helpful information from it? Surely there must be other people with the same amount of finger pain that I have that have received treatment?

This is Versus Arthritis's page on hand and wrist surgery. It's not as common as eg hip, knee or shoulder surgery but I think results can be good now depending on what you're hoping for.

In my experience (hips, knees and non-arthritic bits) the best surgeons tend to work at teaching hospitals. If you're intending to go private then you should check (well, I'd want to) if your surgeon is qualified to work in the NHS as not all private surgeons are. It's a safeguard. If you check out local private hospitals you can find the surgeons who work there and find some info on each. When my husband recently opted for a private hip replacement we opted for the one who worked on the national rugby team as he also did revision surgery which is trickier and demanding more skills.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Your GP should be able to refer you to an orthopaedic department where a surgeon would be able to start to investigate with xray then ultrasound scan. Sometimes GP's need asking/nudging in a certain way.

What kind of pain is it, the joints, base of the fingers, tendons?

Failing that I would look up private orthopaedic surgeons in your area, there will be reviews - easy to find searching with Google.
