Hello

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hands over a year ago I am now struggling with hip and back pain I am having an mri scan on Thursday and must admit to being nervous I just want to know if the arthritis has spread and what pain relief I can get, thought I would join this group so I can chat and get advice, like everyone else covid has left me a bit isolated, I am 63 and lost my job last year so any help will be appreciated

Hello Glenis I have osteoarthritis in both feet lower back and both hips.i am currently taking tramadol and naproxen for the pain but it will take several visits to the doctor to get you this far than start you with co codamol and then work up to get the right dosage for you ... ask for a physio for you're hips and back they help you build up you're muscle strength.also go swimming you don't have to swim if you can't stand in the water and move you're arms from side to side or just walk across the pool back and forth build up you're muscles in you're back first..also get a tense machine from boots £60 put it on massage for 10 mins also helps you can find exercises on YouTube for back and hip pain just start off small build yourself up .. these things help me and buy a heat pack for the back osteoarthritis does not like the cold keep it warm ..let me know if this helps

I've just read your comment lots of good advice there. I have been having falls a lo lately. My Doc gave me amitryptiline a few years ago as I couldn't turn over in bed anymore without pain. Princess and the pea syndrome with my right hip in bed. I fell at the end of October broke and dislocated my ulnar had to have it wired together. Back at work but lessened my hours to 16. Have arthritis in my hand as well as my back. Full right knee replacement which was the best thing I have ever done.

Hello @Mollie and welcome to the community. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that that will be your experience as well.

I understand that you have arthritis in your hand and back and have had a right knee replaced. Our website contains a lot of useful information that might be of interest and I would suggest having a look around it. To help I've put in a couple of links below.

Please do keep posting and let us know how you are getting on and I am sure that others will connect with you to share their thoughts and experiences as well

    With very best wishes

    Hello

Had my MRI and I have bursitis between my leg and hip got to wait to see my doctor , told it is inflammation and hopefully will settle down after some anti inflammatory tablet's, only thing worrying me is it is only supposed to last a few weeks I have been in pain for 2 years at least , consultant did say my hips have a little arthritis but he pointed out that I am 63 so I suppose that means just getting old really cheered me up . Had a laugh the other day broke a dog gravy bone in half and really hurt my thumb it was already painful from pressing the microwave on button , husband thought it funny as well, should have known better but will be more careful in future,
