Hi Apache,
I don’t think GP’s often truly understand how devastating it can be to receive a diagnosis of OA. My first thoughts were no cure, constant pain for years, restrictions to my lifestyle and no way forward. I emailed a complaint and was finally referred to a specialist. On speaking to the specialist I finally felt that someone understood how I felt and could help me improve my life. I had physio and finally someone who knew what exercises would actually help rather than giving me a “ standard one size fits all” set of exercises which didn’t help at all.I found out I needed to make some adjustments but that I could do so much more than I thought I could. I went from working 5 days at a desk, being in pain all day and night and doing nothing to working 3 days a week, doing ballet and tap, cycling and walking . I mostly only need pain killers at night to sleep now. I still have bad days and stay in bed but not so many.
Keep going back to your GP, try different combinations of pain relief. , push your GP for a referral, and try and keep moving.
Good luck. I hope you find a way forward to improve your quality of life. I did but had to fight for it .
Take care
Debbie
