New member with depressing and limiting knee pain
Hello all. I've had arthritis in my big toes for many years, but manageable, even if painful at times. I decided to try walking more recently, but this has led to another issue with my knee. This may partly because the Hallux issues I have caused me to walk badly and put strain on my knee.
I've seen a specialist and he has diagnosed it as a fat pad impingement. I think they call it Hoffmans Syndrome? It is extremely painful if I extend my leg straight and if I spend time with my weight on it then I tire and hobble around. I'm on strong anti inflammatory drugs and coming to the end of a two week course. It's better than it was, but still really catches me and I'm walking with the classic bent knee.
I have to admit that it's really got me down and I guess any experience from others and ideas on his exercise to do and what I should be avoiding would be very helpful together with any magic creams that have made a difference!
Many thanks in advance
Phil

Hi @Dellara welcome to the Online Community.
I was unable to find any information on our web site that relates exactly to what you describe, but did find this article from the NHS titled "Hoffa’s fat pad syndrome":
which seems to be what you are describing.
We have some general information on knee pain which includes tips on managing your symptoms as well as links to exercises for the knee:
Be gentle with yourself and see what works for you.

Hi Phil
Sorry to hear you are struggling with your knee. I had a similar problem with my knee and my ra consultant diagnosed a Bakers Cyst. Could it be you have the same? It might be worth asking the question. I had a prednisolone injection which really helped. Good luck
