New and a bit scared
At the ripe age of 68 and no previous arthritis, I developed a sore finger. I thought I was pounding the laptop too hard. Then it spread, and spread. I can't do much with either hand now. Even getting washed and dressed is difficult. I went to the GP with something else and this problem turned up. After some investigations she has referred me to a rheumatologist. In the meantime coping with pain is awful. I am having to adapt everything. Needing some hugs and advice please.

Hello @Andrea54 and a very warm welcome to the online community,
It can be scary and overwhelming to be referred to a rheumatologist when you’re in pain such as you are, but receiving a diagnosis will be the start of moving forward and coping with your condition. I’m sure many of our members understand what you’re feeling as they have all experienced arthritis in their lives. You can use the community to voice your fears, ask questions, look for answers and yes, receive virtual hugs from our members - they’re a very friendly and supportive group.
Knowledge is power, so I’m posting the link to the Versus Arthritis page for people who are newly or waiting to be diagnosed. It’s full of useful information so can help you prepare for your appointments and understand about treatments and medication:
I hope some members will come along to share their stories and experiences to help you along, and here’s a story from one of our members about what it was like when she was first diagnosed:
Do let us know how you’re getting on,
Anna ( Mod)

Good morning @Andrea54
I am so glad the subject was unintentionally brought up at the Drs. There are treatments available and things might just improve for you instead of just suffering along in silence as you have been.
Next thing is to get a diagnosis and on to the best treatment.
It is frightening no doubt about it, but whatever it is you will cope and we are here for you while you are going through it all. Sending you some serious virtual ((()))
Take care
Toni xx

Hello Andrea54,
I am also 68 and was diagnosed last week with arthritis in both knees and hips. Must admit in took the wind out of my sails. I had a fair idea arthritis was effecting my right knee but never thought in was anywhere else. I was a bit down about it for a few days and thought this is the start of life as you know it disappearing, then I decided to go online and see what info was available.
I found this forum and suddenly I’m not alone and there are people who can use their experience to help. Let’s journey down the road of discovery and see what tips and help will come our way.
Thank you all in advance for the posts I’ll read and the community spirit. Rita
