Couple of queries about pain killers and new pain

Hi everyone hope everyone is ok (as well as we can be )

well I’ve been on the methotrexate nearly 13 weeks no side affects !!! fingers and feet have improved great amounts but elbow which had just started to hurt the reason I went into methotrexate because sulfasalazine wasn’t enough on its own , is now keeping me awake and it’s hurting a lot ! I had read nsaids is no no on dmards is this correct ? Also should I ring my nurse helpline about the prolonged pain ?

many thanks in advance x

Not a complete no no but they should only be taken together if your rheumatologist thinks it'll be OK for you. If you ring your helpline they'll have access to your latest blood tests and be able to decide what your next move should be. Meanwhile, you could just try ordinary pain relief. Your GP could prescribe something or your local pharmacist could let you have something over the counter as long as you're carefull to ensure he or she knows exactly what else you're taking.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi @Hairobsessed123

That's really good news that the MTX is having an effect. In my case I was prescribed NSAIDS with DMARDS from the start of treatment for PsA. At first Naproxen and Sulfasalazine, then MTX was added and the Naproxen was changed to Etodolac. I then had heart problems and the NSAIDS were withdrawn. I'd call your rheumatology helpline to ask for help and advice - after all that's what it's there for.
