Pain management
Ive been taking Ibuprofen 400 mg for years...because of my arthritis...which is getting worse..the ibuprofen is not really having any effect on my pain now...although when i stop taking it i feel like i have flue because the inflammation makes me feel ill..ive been tested for Rheumatoid arthritis and it came back negative..as a retired nurse i know the damage injections can do to the bones.. ive come to the conclusion that paracetamol are just as good ..any advice would be welcome...thank you..

Hi @Ylh28
It sounds like the ibuprofen is doing something for you although I see what you mean. These things only minimise the inflammation, not the pain. Have you been back to your GP about trying any other anti-inflammatories as you've been on ibuprofen for so long? There are plenty to try which I'm sure you know already. Below are some links to management strategies that could be helpful for you in the meantime:
I hope these are of some use to you and that you start to get sorted with something else to help you soon!
Take care,
Sarah

You probably know being an ex nurse that not all types of inflammatory arthritis show up in our bloods. You can have seronegative types like Psoriatic Arthritis. I found this a while back about tests.
I hope you have at least been prescribed a PIP proton pump inhibitor to protect your stomach while on ibuprofen for so many years? I quite agree with you paracetamol is much underestimated and undervalued.
I have tried almost every kind of pain killer available and most work for a while or to an extent. I still come back to my basics like my microwavable wheat bag for instance.
Take care
