Sore, itchy scalp- methotrexate?
Hi,
I started on 15mg methotrexate just under 2 weeks ago and am starting to think my recent itchy and sore scalp could be a side effect.
I have a sensitive scalp anyway which is why I've not thought of it until now but it seems continuous. I'm due to increase my methotrexate tomorrow to 20mg and scared I could start to lose my hair or have increased discomfort. Is there anything anyone would advice?nice read coconut oil is good to sooth and wonder if antihistamines might help....or should I be speaking to my GP rather than self treating/assuming the reason.
Any advice or anyone who's had similar, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks Amanda x

You could try your pharmacist for quicker advice @AmandaBoy ?
I often do when I need a response and the GP is unavailable.
I have used coconut oil on my scalp in the past as well as E45 shampoo and some recommended by the pharmacist.
Take care and best of luck

Thanks Toni,
Firstly, apologies for the worst typing in my original post...I've just read it back and I really should proof read before posting 😂
Anyway,I hadn't even thought about the pharmacy so will try and have a word when next able. Hopefully this is just a minor thing and won't turn into my hair falling out. I did pick up some coconut oil yesterday anyway so am going to see if it soothes a bit.
Thanks Amanda

Hi @AmandaBoy
If nothing else works you could try Polytar Liquid shampoo. It's used for psoriasis, eczema and itchiness and scaling. It worked for me many years ago for my psoriasis but I will warn you it doesn't have any artificial odour added so it does have a medicated smell.
