Hot weather
Hi everyone, I have mild (!) osteoarthritis in both hips but the right is the worse. After a huge flare up when I was diagnosed at beginning of year it’s settled but this last week in the hot weather it is flaring again. My lower back and side hurts and i am so wound up and panicky that everything seems to hurt. I suffer with severe anxiety and as soon as the pain started up again I just seem to have gone to pieces. Anyone else I the same boat? I know cold weather can affect it but can hot? Thanks for listening. X

Hi Snowbunny
I sympathise with you on this.
At the beginning of the warmer weather I was finding that my knee/lower shin area was aching more than usual and I have been getting slight cramp pains in my lower leg ( the right one with the arthritis ) at night. I was hoping that the warmer weather would help to ease the aches/pains and to cut down on my painkillers, but this is not happening. The weather here in S.E.London area is meant to be getting even hotter over the next few days, hopefully it will not last too long. The only thing that helps are the painkillers that I take ( Naproxen) and trying to keep out of the sun . Have you got painkillers to take that might help ease the aching? Hopefully later next week the temperature may drop down and give us all some relief. Take care, you are not alone with this.🙂

Nope not alone as Fran says.
There is definite evidence to support the theory that weather plays a part in our pain.
All we can do is chill our house am and batten down the hatches pm.
Take your painkillers as prescribed and rest for now. Distract yourself will telly or whatever you enjoy doing that's mostly sedentary.
Sending ((()))
We're all in this together

Hi mine also seems worse in hot weather at the moment as only recently been diagnosed.
So far found in knees and hips, possibly in hands and neck, awaiting confirmation.

Thanks guys it’s a comfort knowing you’re not alone. I’m taking naproxen and found some codeine, not sure it’s helping much but it’s something and I’m permanently attached to my tens machine! And this is supposed to be mild. Do you find It affects you all over not just the particular spot? Take care and hope you’re all finding some kind of comfort x

morning everyone, me again!
after the hot weather I was hoping for some relief but with change of weather I’m still in pain. I’m worrying myself sick I can’t seem to just accept it for what it is. I just wondered where else on body is affected by hip osteoarthritis? Is it normal to have lower back ache and aching sides too as well as in actual hip? My anxiety is out of control. I managed a couple of walks last week and some exercises and a bit of gardening but after that I’ve been in a lot of discomfort this weekend and have just taken to the sofa panicking. Im driving my husband mad, he has no sympathy and I feel like im just sat watching everyone else have a life and I’ve lost mine. Sorry to moan x
