Please can anyone help me?? Having been waiting a while for my knee replacement I had a call on Monday to say a cancellation was available this Saturday (23rd July) Yipee…. Was asked questions like was I well, had I stopped taking HRT etc and all fine. Just looked at my notes from my pre admission appt back in May and to my horror it says stop turmeric 2 weeks before surgery. I take a teaspoon of powdered turmeric most days 6% cucurmin and now don’t no what to do. Has anybody out there taken turmeric up to surgery and had any problems. I really don’t want to miss the surgery but at same time do no want to put my health at risk. Any advice appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi @Beverley010 welcome to the community, you are very welcome.

You are due to have a knee replacement and are seeking info on the use of turmeric prior to surgery, and when you should stop taking this.

Unfortunately we don't have any specific info on this on our VA website, however in a lot of cases the reason for stopping taking supplements a minimum of 2 weeks prior to surgery is due to the associated risks. Please do speak directly with your rheumatology or surgery team as they should be able to answer any questions that you have. I have however included a link to the Turmeric info on the VA website below.

Please do think about posting on our Living with arthritis discussion as some of our members may have experience of this. Do please let us know how you get on.

    Thanks, Helen, Admin
