Does Methotrexate make the pain worse at 1st?
Hello π
Just a quick question from a newbie!
I started on methotrexate a few days ago now for RA/OA, and today I feel like I have been hit by a bus!
Is it normal for the pain to feel like it is getting worse, before it gets better, or is this something that I should flag up. Pain hasn't been this bad for a very long time, and I could almost cry with the amount of pain I am in.

Hi @Hev24uk200
Thank you for posting on the online community, its good to see you here.
You have just started taking methotrexate and are seeking information on symptoms
In the 1st few weeks it can take a while for your body to get used to Methotrexate as it can take a while to start working, so it could be up to 12 weeks before you start to notice any difference, but you should still keep taking it. If you have side effects, speak to your doctor as you might not be able to carry on taking it. Side effects can happen immediately or after you have taken methotrexate for a long time, but mild ones often settle over time.
Please do take a look at the information on Methotrexate on our website.
Thanks you for posting, and please let us know how you get on
Thanks
