Methotrexate injections

Hi, I have a meeting with a Rheumatology nurse about starting these. I have taken it orally with no effect, the dosage was increased with still no effect but my liver bloods rose over the upper limit so it was stopped. Does anyone have experience of the subcutaneous method being more effective and not impacting their liver? I’m nervous about taking it in any form because the higher dose was very unpleasant!

Hi @CJO Welcome to the Online Community.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a type of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). It’s used to reduce activity of the immune system for people who have certain conditions.

It sounds as though it didn't help with your symptoms and you had an issue with your liver indicated by you blood results. Now you are due to meet with a Rheumatology nurse to discuss restarting it in injection format instead.

I did a search and found no-one actively discussing Methotrexate taken via subcutaneous method being any better for the liver, but maybe no-one has ever posted about it.

This is a thread about raised LFT from earlier this year:

I would certainly want to discuss your concerns with the nurse when you see them.

Please do take a look around the Community while you're here Living with Arthritis tends to be the most popular.

    Best wishes
