Arthritis in Thumb Surgery
Hi , I’m new to the community. I have amongst other places Arthritis in both thumbs , I’m going for the Trapeziectomy , other option was a fusion which scares the life out of me . I’ve always loved crafts sewing drawing , nothing to heavy going . The thought of never being able to do what I love has shattered me , I’m 55 and I also have Fibromyalgia, Arthritis in my feet , neck and base of spine . It’s all getting a bit to much , has anyone got any words of advice , am I going for the right option ? . Thank you 😊

Hi @furbabysinc
Thanks for posting on the online community. You are very welcome.
You are due to undergo hand and wrist surgery and are seeking some advice.
A Trapeziectomy is the most common form of hand and wrist surgery and involves a complete removal of the trapezium. Sometimes a piece of tendon is used from your wrist, or you may be given an artificial metal and plastic joint, or a silicone rubber spacer. There is a Trapeziectomy Factsheet on the Versus Arthritis website that should help explain things better.
I've included a link below and a thread from a member that you may find interesting.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
Take care, Helen
