Save cartilage?- osteoarthritis in big toe joints
Hi All,
Any suggestions as to how I can bolster the remnants of cartilage I do have?
I'm taking a break from running due to the lack of cartilage in my big toe joints. I had hallux rigidis, which is calming down, but I do have bone spurs around the joints. My podiatrist has terrified me and thinks I should get surgery. I'm looking for ways to walk, hike, (and possibly run?).

Hi @jls642
Welcome to the community it is great that you have found us. I am not aware of any treatments that can bolster cartilage. There are some supplements which some people find useful
Is this the kind of thing you were looking for?
I found this information about your hallux ridges which may be useful. It sounds like you need some more information and maybe another chat with your podiatrist.
I hope this is helpful and that our members will share their ideas with you
Best wishes
Sharon

Can we save our cartilage?
I am about to start cycling! I walk daily anyway and would love to cycle, but have naff lungs. I have borrowed my sisters electric bike so hoping it will enable me to get out and enjoy more of the countryside😊without pounding my joints too much.
Do let us know how you get on
